Pépoulie is a typical farmhouse of South West France, built before the French Revolution, with 19th century additions. Sensitively restored, with all modern facilities, including a 12 x 5 metre swimming pool.
It is a kilometre north of the village of Puylaurens, between Toulouse and Castres, and enjoys over 2100 hours of sunshine a year (cf Paris with around 1600 hours per year). It consists of the house itself (where we live), stables converted into the gîte for our guests, and a workshop. Situated on the crest of a hill, in the middle of a hectare of land (around two and a half acres), it has panoramic views of the rolling countryside all around.
Growing around the house are cherries, pears, plums, figs, grapes, apples and quinces, which our guests are welcome to pick.
This area of SW France, in the Tarn département of the Midi-Pyrénées region, is known as "the French Tuscany". (Läs Expressens artikel från juli 2009 om "ett franskt Toscana".) It is rich in history and culture - the city of Albi (named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 2010), the Occitan language, Cathars and the château of Saissac, the town of Sorèze, cassoulet, pays de cocagne, wine - and just about every village and town around has something worth exploring or experiencing.
One of the best hotel-restaurants in the area is Cuq en Terrasses in the village of Cuq-Toulza, about ten kilometres from Puylaurens on the road to Toulouse. The cuisine is outstanding, and you'll have to book a day in advance to get a table.
Another very good place to eat is the beautifully restored hotel in Puylaurens, Cap de Castel. You'll need to book beforehand. Their site also gives a very good idea of why this area of France is so special.

Nyhet: från mitten av april 2010 lanserar Ryanair en ny sommardestination med två avgångar i veckan från Skavsta till Béziers, två timmars bilresa från Pépoulie.
Welcome!
